Sister Kenny [1946] [DVD]

This is based on the true story of Nurse Elizabeth Kenny, who dedicated her life helping polio sufferers in Australia. Her method went completely against the standard medical procedure at the time of putting sufferers into splints and on crutches. Her techniques involved treating spasms with heat and steaming flannels. She realises the children are not paralyzed but the muscles have become alienated. Her treatment of six young polio sufferers including a young girl called Dorrie, is so effective they are able to walk out of her clinic.

Problems arise when she takes young Dorrie to see the leading expert of the time, Dr Black, who dismisses her treatment stating the only conclusion is the young girl never had polio in the first place..
