She Cried Murder [1973] [DVD]

Made the same year that he entered television folklore as the lollipop-sucking detective Theo Kojak, this TV movie reveals a darker side to Telly Savalas's law-enforcing persona. With a premise that owes just a tad to Agatha Christie's 4:50 from Paddington, the plot turns around widowed model Lynda Day George.

She is the only witness to a subway murder and has to convince others that it really happened, including Savalas, who is the chief investigating officer. It's an old-fashioned, slow-burning cat-and-mouse game, with director Herschel Daugherty sustaining the tension right through to the inevitable chase along the sidings.
