The poster promised “A Phantasmagoria of Fright”, but director Richard C Safarian's disappointing adaptation of John Bingham's novel delivers very little of anything. The initial premise is promising. Writer David Hemmings is investigating the murder of his aunt (Flora Robson) in Pompeii.

The problem is, he's a reformed drug addict, and clues to the mystery keep being complicated by weird hallucinations. Is he going insane? A Euro-pudding cast , Gayle Hunnicutt, Wilfred Hyde White, Adolfo Celi, provide some answers before the whole flimsy farrago falls apart.
