Corruption [1967] [DVD]Peter Cushing (actor) Sue Lloyd (actor)
Format: all-region dvd (worldwide) Runtime: 90 min Quality: Digital
Unanimously slated by the press as cheap and nasty when it was first shown, this horrific thriller is actually a minor masterpiece of Grand Guignol and far and away underrated director Robert Hartford-Davis's best film. Similar in theme, if not in style, to Georges Franju's Eyes without a Face, it stars Peter Cushing as a surgeon, who goes to desperate lengths to get the pituitary glands he needs to restore fiancée Sue Lloyd's disfigured face.
Cushing and Lloyd both throw themselves into their roles with gusto and are aided by a fast-moving script from the director's regular writers, Donald and Derek Ford. Released in other countries as Laser Killer, though with more graphic material, the final scene remains one of the most demented ever filmed. |
