Format: all-region dvd (worldwide) Runtime: 99 min Quality: Excellent, b/w, 4:3
American soldiers stationed in the French mountains discover a glamorous woman hiding out near their base. They are soon captivated by her considerable charms - but luckily one or two among them suspect there might be more to the femme fatale than meets the eye. Second World War drama, starring Howard Keel, Tina Louise and Burt Reynolds.
In this potentially interesting but bungled Second World War drama, Tina Louise plays a sort of Mata Hari figure who infiltrates a group of GIs to discover the Allied Forces' strength and tactics. The soldiers squabble for her favours, but the leader remains sceptical. Louise looks good but lacks the dramatic range to carry off the demanding role, and she's not helped by a script that deals strictly in clichés. The film also offers a non-musical starring role for Howard Keel. "He should've sung," wrote sixth-billed Burt Reynolds. "We needed all the help we could get." |
